Just Curious: What Have You Published?

So, as I crawl like a beaten-down slug proceed jauntily to the homestretch of my first book, Raising Chaste Catholic Men (due out on August 27, the Feast of St. Monica!), I thought of all the great writers and talent we have out in the Bubble community, and I figured it's time for a fun Just Curious!

What have you published? Do you have a blog? A book? An academic work out there? Assuming it's nothing offensive or objectionable to common decency, I'd love to hear about it, and feel free to share your links and titles with all of us!

Okay, go!

  2. I was a PR major in college and my first "real" job in my field was for a PR agency. My client was a major manufacturer of welding equipment. I was a 22 year-old young woman who had never ever given welding a single thought. I wrote case studies, articles, press releases which were published in places like The Welding Journal, The Gases and Welding Distributor, Practical Welding Today....it was a good job for a kid right out of college...and really made me appreciate the hard work of the skilled trades. However, I was glad to leave the welding business when it was time.

  3. Blogs (thecloisteredheart.org and thebreadboxletters.com), a book entitled The Cloistered Heart (it's on Amazon), a number of articles in Catholic magazines over the years. Review for Religious, Ultreya and some et ceteras .... anyone remember New Covenant Magazine back in the '80s and '90s? Yep, there too. That was actually quite a popular Catholic magazine back in the day; maybe some of your readers' PARENTS remember it... tee hee :).

  4. Betsy, wow, you now know all there is to know about welding, I'd guess!! That is so funny! And cool!

Nancy, I love your work. I vaguely remember New Covenant... I wonder if I used to read that when I first reverted, back when magazines were what I subscribed to, rather than just reading stuff online!

Margo, that's awesome, and YES, you are right! Thank you for the reminder!!

  6. Well, I just have a personal type blog at the moment (onlyamerewoman.blogspot.com) but am hoping to get a fitness/health one up soon, and am writing a novel? Series? Book? With three of my girlfriends, but who knows when that will be done.

  7. I'm usually a lurker, but this one made me LOL. I had to respond because I've worked for a Catholic newspaper for 19 years, so ... several bylines! But we have a tiny staff, so it's not like I'm beating out a whole crew of writers/photographers each week! So I don't usually think of myself as 'published' but hey, maybe I should! =)

I've also blogged almost 10 years, but privately, so most of my friends don't even know! I tend to refer to it as my 'online scrapbook for the grandparents.'

  8. Coming Sept.15, my chapter (#5) in an academic compilation titled: Woman as Prophet in the Home and the World, interdisciplinary Investigations. Chapter is " The New Feminism, Prophetic Bodies, and Freedom." I've got a couple of articles out there to come, but concentrating on the dissertation now 😀

  9. I had a blog laurathecrazymama.blogspot.com but I consider my FB pretty much my blog now. A little story I told about the birth of my 5th child was published in a collection of stories about angels, put out by Pauline Books & Media. I wrote for our local Patch before it went defunct. I'm not a "writer" but I often will edit copy for friends and local politicians...I do it for free because bad spelling and grammar make me nuts.

  10. Laura - We're so similar!! I also more or less consider FB to be my blog, I briefly discerned religious life with the Daughters of St. Paul, and I'm an automatic proofreader haha I'm so with you on being a spelling & grammar nazi!

  12. Years ago I came across an old copy of Our Lady of Lourdes by Henri Lasserre. I read and re-read it. I've been through it five times altogether and have rewritten every one of its 700 pages into Apple's iBooks program. Its an amazing story which shook the world by its shoulders in the 19th century. I made it available at no charge. Please take a peek at my little publicity page found at http://mymothersbooks.blogspot.ch

  14. Mostly my blog is for my family, since we don't live near any of them, but I also refer people interested in international adoption to it, since there are several posts about adopting our son from Bulgaria. I also have a page in the Today's Family Magazine out of Louisville, KY. It's nothing much, just an informational page for parents of kids ages birth to 5 years, and it only publishes four times a year. What I really love to write about is history, and I have all these ideas for books, including some kids' saint picture books, but I'm a terrible procrastinator, so we'll see what gets actually written.

  15. I currently blog at http://whatifgodsaysno.blogspot.com/. The blog initially began as a response to Catholic women who were dealing with infertility. I wanted to let them know that life still could be True, Good and Beautiful even when the answer to a prayer for children was "No". Now I write about whatever piques my interest.

My husband and I had a blog on the USCCB website, For Your Marraige, and although we don't write for it any longer, our posts are still out there. It's at http://www.foryourmarriage.org/marriage-resources/news-blogs/wonder-doubled/.

We recently attended the GK Chesterton conference and I came away with an idea for a new project/blog. That's still in the works and we hope to reveal it soon.

  16. A while back I started giving reviews of promo products my husband would pick up at medical conferences (pens, screen wipers, mugs, etc.) and developed a bit of a following. My blog is http://giveawayconsultant.blogspot.com. Even led to a paid job and a national promo products association published an article I wrote for them. It's a pretty cool feeling!

Recently I had a letter to our diocese's Catholic newsletter published which I'll link below:

  17. Leila thanks for asking, this is giving me new blogs to look up! I don't have a blog myself, but in the past I've had 2 book reviews published. They were so long ago though that I don't believe either one is on the internet. Oh, and I have 4 sons--two in their 20s, two late teens, you have a book about raising men....hmmm...maybe it's time for another book review... ;)

  18. I currently write for Chicago sports website MidwayMadness.com. As far as Catholic things go, I write for Catholic365.com, but that's only because they virtually let anyone write for them, and gets more readers than my blog does.

Most of what I write is found on my blog, The Not-So Angelic Doctor. One of my papers has been featured on Dave Armstrong's website under his "Catholic Scandals: real or imagined" section. The link to that essay on my blog is below. That's the one I did the most work on, and it's the only apologetic paper I've seen on the issue of Pope Clement VIi and the spurious charge that he ordered the forced conversions of the Native Americans:

  20. This gets better and better! You guys are so interesting and I'm excited to read all of your stuff!

And a note to those who don't write: Don't feel bad, as I also did a Just Curious once about what you "do" rather than what you "write" and it was incredible! I have some very fascinating readers, with so much to share, and so many gifts. Praise God for it!

  21. This post is a total micro aggression. I wrote an amazing book report on The Hobbit in sixth grade and even though it wasn't published, to me it was a masterpiece.
Can't wait for the book Leila. Congrats on getting it done. Can't imagine what it must take.

  24. I did not know you were doing a book. Congrats. NOT an easy process! I find it overwhelming.

My book should be out on all major online book distributors (like Amazon)by the end of summer (don't have and exact date). We are still tweaking the cover. Everything else is done. Paperback only for now. Ebook may come later.

It's called "Faith with Good Reason: Finding Truth Through an Analytical Lens" Foreword is written by Dr. Stacy Trasancos.

    I'll keep you posted.
