This one's going to be fun! Not just because of the question, but because of the Grand Prize!
First, the question:
The Bible describes Jesus as being joyful only one time while He was on earth. What made Jesus rejoice?
I always put in the caveat that there is no cheating/googling allowed, but I reeeeaaallllly mean it this time! To win such an awesome Grand Prize, someone really has to earn it! Or, if nobody gets the right answer, I will award the Grand Prize to the contestant with the most clever, creative, heartfelt, inspirational and/or amusing answer. (Or, maybe I will just choose someone who has sucked up to me all these months.)
The Grand Prize for this edition of Bible in the Bubble is being donated by Melanie at Trendy Traditions! That's right, if you didn't win one of her rosaries over at Kaitlin's blog, this is another chance! Her best-selling rosary (and my fave!) is the hot pink and zebra rosary:
But the winner can pick from any item on her site (excluding the couples or custom rosaries)! In fact, if you want to search the site and

Okay now, what are you waiting for? Tell me what made (and continues to make) Jesus REJOICE!!!!
In the Gospel of St Luke, Jesus was full of joy through the Holy Spirit, as He praised the Father for hiding things from the wise and learned, and revealing it to children.
ReplyDeleteNot verbatim, but close, I think.
I think it's when there's a prodigal son or daughter that comes back to Him...The story of the 99 and bringing the lost one back into the fold. I could be wrong though.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea, but I have the "Rejoice in the Lord, always" song in my head. I'm really curious to find out the actual answer.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, but I have the image in my head of the picture where Jesus is laughing with children around him, "Let the children come to me."
ReplyDeleteMy first though was when he raised Lazarus (sp) from the dead...I know he wept when he arrived and found Lazarus dead so I'm thinking maybe he rejoiced when he rose?
ReplyDeleteI want a Rosary Leila! Please?pleae please please?
Hmmm... I think it was after He had resurrected Lazarus.
ReplyDeleteThe faith of the Centurion?
ReplyDeleteNot a clue!!!
ReplyDeleteNo idea, but instead of spending time googling the answer, I'll just go look at the pretty rosaries instead...
ReplyDeleteI didn't have a clue, and decided to go cheat and copy the best sounding answer. So, my answer is: Jesus rejoiced at the fact that God the father reveals things to children while hiding it from the wise and learned.
ReplyDeleteAnd clearly, because I cheated (and stole... and coveted my neighbor's answer), I obviously need to pray more. And what better to whip my heathen butt into shape than a beautiful "Trendy Traditions" rosary??
Ok. I don't know exactly where it is, and I'm not sure if we're allowed to look in the bible, so bear with me. Jesus sends out the disciples to the towns to share the good news. He says whoever listens to you listens to me, whoever rejects you rejects me. They return and are rejoicing that the demons submit to them in Jesus' name. Then he tells them that they are going to heaven. He rejoices that God His father has made a plan of salvation for the world. The enemy will be overcome and He wins! His Father is all powerful. These things have been hidden from the wise prophets and kings and revealed to children.
ReplyDeleteHope that's close - totally winging it over here. :)
But guess what Leila? If I win the rosary, I'll pray it for your family while I'm in labor in a few weeks. Just saying ;)
hehehe ;) Gotta use what I got!
ReplyDeleteAlright, didn't look at any of the above comments. Was it when he raised Lazarus? I have nothing witty to add, I'm afraid! -Ruby
ReplyDeleteI want to cheat so badly because I want that rosary. I bet that is bringing Jesus a lot of joy.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm so stumped.
So joy in spreading the word, joy in suffering, joy in modeling...I think he lived his life in joy and it wasn't something that needed to be stated but rather something he modeled for us weak little humans.
That's my final answer. :)
when He was baptized in the JOrdan??
ReplyDeletewhat's new-I have no idea! But I did order two rosaries as Christmas gifts including the zebra one-perfect!
ReplyDeleteI think he was joyful when he laughed. But, I'm not sure where that is located .... think it had something to do with kids.
ReplyDeleteOK, this won't win me any prizes but here goes. Joy is different than happiness. Joy is deep and you can have joy while in the midst of sorrow. I think that Jesus felt joy on the cross. He loves us so much that he freely chose to take on our sin so that we could be united with Our Father. Was he suffering? You bet. But his great love for us caused him great joy.
ReplyDeleteAndie
I'm probably totally off, but I feel like it has something to do with Jerusalem.
ReplyDeleteOh shoot! I forgot I wasn't supposed to read the comments first! I disqualify myself! lol
ReplyDeleteOkay I'm a little late to the party, but I hope I'm not too late!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to say that Jesus rejoiced when Lazarus was raised from the dead. I'm excited to see the answer!
I love Bible in the Bubble! And I just love the Bubble regardless! And Leila, your wealth of knowledge makes us all better, holier, more knowledgable Catholics! :) (how's that for sucking up?) ;)
